CaptionTube ("we", "us", or "our") has established this Privacy Policy (the "Policy") regarding the handling of personal information in the mobile application "CaptionTube" (the "App").

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information Stored Locally (Device Only)

The following information is stored only on your device and is not sent to external servers:

  • Watch History: Video ID, title, channel name, thumbnail URL, last played timestamp (up to 100 items)
  • App Settings: Subtitle font size, translation font size, playback speed, mute settings, auto-metadata display settings, etc.
  • Language Preferences: UI language (Japanese/English), translation display settings

This data is stored on your device using SharedPreferences.

1.2 Information Sent to Servers

The following information is sent to our servers to provide the App's functionality:

  • YouTube Video IDs: Sent to retrieve subtitles
  • Text for Translation: Sent to obtain Japanese translations
  • Search Keywords: Sent to provide video search functionality

This information does not personally identify you and is used solely to provide services.

1.3 Information We Do Not Collect

The App does not collect:

  • Personal identification information such as names or email addresses (no account registration required)
  • IP address tracking or logging
  • Individual user behavioral analytics data

2. Third-Party Services

2.1 Firebase Analytics

The App uses Google Firebase Analytics to analyze app usage.

  • Information collected: App launch count, usage frequency, device information (OS version, device model, etc.)
  • Purpose: App improvement, bug identification, feature optimization
  • Personal identification: Not linked by default

2.2 RevenueCat

The App uses RevenueCat for subscription management.

  • Information collected: Subscription status, purchase events, device-level anonymous ID
  • Purpose: Subscription management, billing processing

2.3 YouTube

The App uses the YouTube API to play YouTube videos.

3. Use of Information

Collected information is used for the following purposes:

  • Providing the App's services and improving functionality
  • Providing subtitle retrieval and translation services

  • Watch History: Stored on your device until you delete it (automatically managed up to 100 items)
  • App Settings: Stored on your device until you uninstall the App
  • Server Logs: May be retained for a certain period to resolve technical issues

6. Data Deletion

You can delete data using the following methods:

  • Watch History: Can be deleted from the app's settings screen
  • All Data: All data on your device will be deleted when you uninstall the App

7. Security

We properly manage your information and implement reasonable security measures against risks such as unauthorized access, loss, destruction, alteration, and leakage.

  • API communications use HTTPS
  • Local data is protected by device security features

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights:

  • Right to access your data
  • Right to delete your data
  • Right to obtain information about data processing
